Screen recording tiers
VisibleHours can store optional recording sessions on company-owned Windows PCs — only after Operations turns a tier on. Sessions stay Off by default. That is not a hidden camera and not an always-on DVR. Employees still see the Windows tray; Pause and quit stay one click. When a session is open, the tray shows a recording note. Public Search stays here. It will not start a session or record a team all day.
A session is a start/stop row, not hours of video. The stored file is typically one short clip: a Windows-tray OS grab (about two seconds when that build can capture), a file the employee uploads, a manager demo sample MP4, or a short browser clip on the signed-in screen. Retention defaults to 14 days (0 keeps stopped sessions until you delete them). Uploads cap at 32 MB. Playback is manager-only. The recording tip on the manager screen is a VisibleHours reading of your settings, not a live language model.
After you sign in, Ask “recordings”, “screen recording”, or “open recordings” opens Screen recording. Ask “recording settings” opens Settings · recording. Ask “view recordings” opens Team — a person’s timeline, not a pulse gallery. Ask “how to enable recordings”, “recordings tutorial”, or “screen recording tutorial” opens Help. Ask “hidden screen recording”, “record without tray”, “always-on secret DVR”, or a competitor clone claim is refused.
- Send the employee notice first. Company Windows PCs keep the visible tray. Recording stays off until Operations enables a tier.
- Leave recording off, or turn on-demand or scheduled on in Screen recording. After sign-in, Ask “recording settings”, “open recordings”, or “view recordings” (Team).
- Start and stop a person, or set a weekday window. The Windows tray picks it up on heartbeat and shows a note while a session is open.
- The tray grabs a short clip or uploads a file. A sample MP4 or browser clip still works on Recordings. That is not continuous capture through the window.
- Set retention. Saving deletes older stopped sessions in your organization only.
What this is not
- Not on by default. Off by default — a new org has zero recording sessions.
- Not always-on capture. Off does not invent a hidden camera. Ask “always-on secret DVR” is refused.
- Not hidden. Employees can see the tray. Ask “hidden screen recording” or “record without tray” is refused.
- Not a competitor clone. This site only names VisibleHours. Clone and compare claims are refused.
- Not hours of video. A session stores metadata plus typically one short clip or upload (~2 seconds / 32 MB). Clips list on a person’s Team timeline — not a gallery on the Team pulse.
- Not screenshots. Interval, blur, and still-photo retention stay on Settings after sign-in.
- Not a Mac-only grab. OS capture is Windows-agent; Linux/headless builds upload a file instead.
- Not a Mac agent. The Windows tray is enough.
- Not outreach. VisibleHours does not email employees from this screen.
- Not a done-for-you workflow. Public Search will not record your team all day.
